Aio Publishes New Author with Similarities to Cherryh and Robinson
Charleston , SC - What if Earth sent out colonization vessels—but then left the resulting new societies alone? What would form in the absence of familiar Earth-based authority?
Left alone on a tidally-locked planet next to a red dwarf sun, a society does form and thrive, but at a cost. A century and a half and several generations later, human nature still rears its head, alone.
Nocturne is that story. Including both a macro plot and a micro plot, Jus Neuce takes discerning readers along for a thought-provoking ride as she explores vast sociological dilemmas and the very personal psychological impact such structures can have. In Nocturne, two young men find themselves caught up in a political struggle they know little about, transplanted from their home and later made to come face to face with prejudice. At the same time, the powers within Nocturne's political structure must deal with crucial long term issues ranging from population rebellion, interior power struggles, a threat to a large percentage of the population's very survival, and even a terrorist incident—which may have been committed by more than one person in their own ranks.
And hidden within, a romantic relationship struggles to take form.
Readers who yearn for something deep to sink into, for thoughtful science fiction and a strong authorial voice, can look forward to Nocturne's publication in September 2005. Aio Publishing Company, a small press devoted to revealing the humanity in science fiction, will publish the novel in an easily accessible trade paperback format, smaller than the usual to allow for easy travel (or bathtub reading) but printed on durable and fine quality paper.
Science fiction editor Dr. Edward Carmien (The Cherryh Odyssey) praised this first science fiction novel and author. "Jus Neuce's spider-silk prose in Nocturne provides subtle speculation—genetics, psychology, economics, even the science of tidal-locked planetary bodies—and lurking beneath the surface of it all is a sense of unresolved menace that leads to the expectations of a sequel," he wrote. "Readers who can't get enough of Cherryh's tightly written characters and plots or enough of Robinson's colony politics should give this new writer a look—Jus Neuce presents a sense of wonder and humanity in Nocturne."
The trade paperback edition of Nocturne will be available in the United States and Canada in September 2005, with other locales to follow.
